Celebrating Journey

A birthday party for Journey Truth will be held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at Redwing Blackbird Theater on Main Street in Rosendale. The Sojourner Truth Girl Scout community is coming together with Journey Truth (Kesii MacKaye), America’s oldest active Girl Scout, to remember the core: belief in community and in taking care of one another right here and right now.

“Special guests will lead us in dance and song to celebrate this festive moment,” says Redwing Blackbird owner Amy Trompetter. “We are celebrating the young girls and future women of our community with our special legacy of Soujourner Truth, who was born here. We too want to embrace our potential by walking in her footsteps. “

Journey Truth will be 106 on Feb. 2 of this year, which may well make her the oldest Girl Scout of any description. She is a strong and articulate speaker who eloquently addresses up-to-the-minute and timeless concerns. The occasion promises to be one that Scouts and their loved ones will long remember.
