Dog gone it!

The annual High Falls Pet Show celebrated its 30th anniversary on Saturday, Sept. 15. Animals of all shapes, sizes and species competed for prize ribbons in 10 different categories. Event co-founder Sue Paterson was honored for three decades of work. Pet Show 2018 was sponsored by the High Falls Civic Association.

Ribbons were awarded in 10 competitive categories: Pet Owner Look-Alike: Cappuccino the cat of High Falls (Sylvia Hallibelle); Pee-Wee: Poppy the gerbil of Hurley (Kate Weston); Jumbo: Sparkles the horse of Kerhonkson (Olivia and Chloe); All-American Mutt: Wylie the dog of New Paltz (Roseanne Malfucci); Most Unusual: Radar the baby donkey of Stone Ridge (Brinn Dimler); Old Friend: Honey the 16½-year-old dog of High Falls (Susan Scherer); The Whippersnapper: Ruby the 11-week-old Great Dane puppy of Accord (Lea Mazzei.); Happy Days Are Here (Best Pet Rescue Story): Ziggy Stardust the Maltese dog of Bloomington (Mario Geissler).[ Ziggy Stardust was found on the streets of Yonkers, in terrible shape because of a dog attack. He was taken to the shelter, and he was scheduled for euthanasia the next day. However, a Maltese rescue fund raised $500 in one night for treatment. The treatment was successful, but vets could not save one eye. Mario saw a pre-rehab photo of Ziggy on the website, and knew this was the dog he wanted. Ziggy now travels all over the world with Mario for work.]; Ms. High Falls: Sadie the 6-month-old Scottie dog of Stone Ridge (Grace Kiszkiel); and Mr. High Falls: Malichi the Lab mix dog of Stone Ridge (Fernando and Lucia Coache).
