Free milkweed seeds at the Xeriscape Garden Plant Sale in Stone Ridge

Posted

The master gardeners of Cornell Cooperative Extension Ulster County are giving away free milkweed pods, while supplies last, to the shoppers at their 7th Annual Plant Sale, 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Sept. 15, at their Xeriscape Garden, SUNY Ulster, 491 Cottekill Road, Stone Ridge. The Plant Sale will offer an array of plants from the Xeriscape Garden itself, plus perennials, shrubs, trees and even houseplants grown by the master gardeners. Fresh bundles of culinary herbs grown in the garden will also be available for purchase. Proceeds benefit the CCEUC Master Gardener Program. Cash, check or credit cards (Visa and MasterCard) will be accepted at the sale, which will be held rain or shine. The plant sale is part of the “Learning in the Garden” series, held every third Saturday at the Xeriscape Garden, June-October, with the last workshop on Oct. 20, “Natives and other plants for late season color.” Walk-ins are welcome, or participants may register ahead.  For more info and to register, contact master gardener coordinator Dona Crawford at 845-340-3990, ext. 335, or email dm282@cornell.edu. The Xeriscape Garden is an interactive teaching tool in the selection of heat-tolerant water-wise plants, integrated pest management and alternative landscaping techniques. Free guided tours of the Xeriscape Garden are also available by request for a group or organization. Call the Master Gardener Hotline at 845-340-3478.
