Hal Sampson birthday celebration at Town of Rosendale Seniors meeting

The seniors have their executive board meeting at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, followed by a business meeting at 1 p.m., at the Rosendale Recreation Center, 1055 Route 32, Rosendale. The meeting will begin with a birthday celebration for Hal Sampson, who will turn 97 on that day. Sampson is a World War II veteran and the oldest living active member. Honorable mention will be extended to Hank Buser, a Korean War veteran, who turned 90 on July 16. Immediately following the birthday celebration, at 2 p.m., Janet Johnson Schliff will discuss her experiences in reference to rewriting life’s script after suffering from a brain tumor and being victimized by compulsive disorders. She holds degrees in special education and is the author of “Whatever Happened to My White Picket Fence.” At the conclusion of her lecture, she will promote her book. Information about the annual anniversary dinner, scheduled for Aug. 28, will also be announced at the meeting. There will be no meeting on Aug. 14, due to the group trip to Pigeon Forge and the Smoky Mountains from Aug. 12-17. Cost for the trip is $575 per person, double occupancy. Reservations are also being taken for the Sept. 10 trip to Villa Roma in Callicoon for dinner and show featuring a tribute to Paul Anka. Cost is $59 per person. New members are always welcome, and nonmembers are always invited to meetings, dinners and on trips. For more information, call Chickie at 845-658-2414 or Hal at 845-658-9020.
