Nil Yalter: Exile is a Hard Job

Posted

"Exile Is a Hard Job" is the first solo U.S. museum exhibition of work by Nil Yalter (b. 1938, Cairo), a pioneer of socially engaged art since the 1970s. She was one of the first artists in France to use video, when it first emerged as an artistic medium, and was the first to create work about transgender identity from a Middle Eastern context. The show presents the diversity of her work, from previously little-known paintings to her early videos and multimedia installations in which she combines photography, video, drawings, and sculpture into collages.
