Open house to introduce Native American Center

Posted

The community is invited to an open house introducing the proposed Lenape/Delaware Native American Center of the Hudson Valley, 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, at the Marbletown Community Center, 3564 Main St., Stone Ridge. Admission to the event is free.

The proposed center is envisioned as a contemporary facility in a relevant natural setting, representing a small step to restore the Lenape presence in a dignified, restorative and respectful way, providing the People an opportunity to have representation in their ancestral land; offer education and correct information about the People to the general public, telling their story in their own words, within a dignified historical context and presentation; be a platform for the presentation of contemporary Lenape art, products and traditional crafts, as a means of bringing increased recognition to them as a living people, and offering potential income streams from such sales; and act as a platform of advocacy for the Lenape/Delaware, being a springboard of restorative justice for them and all Native Americans.
