Small fire at Rondout Valley Grocers

Posted

Traffic on Route 209 in Accord was re-routed on the morning of Wednesday morning, June 14. Commuters, who are accustomed to minor bridge construction delays, were diverted by State Troopers to the familiar flood route connecting Mettacahonts Road to the south and Whitfield Road to the north. Local fire departments had quickly responded to a fire at the Rondout Valley Grocers. Shawn Marks, first assistand chief of the High Falls Fire Department, who was running the water tanker from High Falls and was standing by at Accord Station 1, reported that, “The fire was quickly contained to the apartment on the second floor of the building,” the presumed place of origin. “It was supposedly started by an air conditioning unit,” he said. There was “minimal damage to the room of origin -- smoke and heat damage.” There is a posting by the entrance to the store from the Tity of Rochester, “UNSAFE BUILDING.”
