Featuring interactive workshops on book-binding, kite-making, silk-screen printmaking, meditation, journaling, DIY herbal remedies, knitting, improv, ukulele, collaborative drawing, and Dungeons & Dragons, Smell the Damn Roses will hold their first, and soon to be annual, hobby festival, noon-6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Marbletown Community Center, 3564 Main St., Stone Ridge. Smell the Damn Roses founder Allison Braun created the organization to help others who have struggled with mental and/or physical illnesses. Braun was born with a birth defect that has required over 30 surgeries to date and found relief and meaning through creative community and art. The Hobby Festival will provide 11 different creative outlets for attendees to chart their own path to wholeness through the joy of making and connecting. The event is made possible by the generous support of local sponsors: Wired Gallery, Women’s Studio Workshop, Dragon’s Den, Photobooth Fun Time, Green Cottage, the Rosendale Theatre, Stone Ridge Physical Therapy, Marbletown Animal Hospital, Arcane Video, ExpressTech Printing, Melissa Mandel Art, Counterculture Kids Healthy Outlet and EVOL. Smell the Damn Roses’ mission is creativity and community for happier humans. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased online at smellthedamnroses.com or at the door.
