High Falls-Marbletown

Tree Lighting Ceremony

Posted

This free annual event, with music, soup, food, carols, Hanukkah menorah lighting and a visit from Santa, is sponsored each year by the High Falls Civic Association and will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec, 2, at the corner of Route 213 and Second Street, High Falls.

Celebrants will gather at the tall evergreen tree in the center of town, adjacent to the former Depuy Canal House and future home of D&H Canal Historical Society Museum.

Sing along to Christmas carols and other joyous seasonal songs and listen to Ed Morris recite “The Night Before Christmas.” There will be soup served free of charge, courtesy of Anne Nickerson of High Falls Kitchenette and Buffy and Brian Gribbon of High Falls Cafe. Fire pits will illuminate Second Street, where the ceremony will be situated.

This year, the event will also include the illumination of a Hanukkah menorah plus distribution of Hanukkah gelt. The highlight of the event is the arrival of Santa Claus on a fire engine, courtesy of the High Falls Volunteer Fire Department.

After the festivities, all assembled are invited to the Community Church of High Falls, at the corner of Mohonk and Firehouse roads, for hot chocolate and cookies.

The High Falls Civic Association meets the first Wednesday every month at 6 p.m. at different local spots. New members and volunteers are always wanted to help plan and participate in the 2018 calendar of events. For more information, visit highfallscivic.org.
