Visiting artist Martin Wittfooth exhibits at SUNY Ulster gallery


The SUNY Ulster Visiting Artist Series brings the work of Martin Wittfooth to the Muroff Kotler Visual Arts Gallery from Sept. 12-Oct. 18. A slide lecture and opening reception will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, in the College Lounge, Vanderlyn Hall, SUNY Ulster, 491 Cottekill Road, Stone Ridge. This event is free and open to the public. Wittfooth’s paintings, drawings, installations, and sculptural works investigate themes of industry and nature, and human influence on the environment. Many of his works explore the theme of shamanism, rituals and practices through which creates dialogue with both the nature outside of self and the nature within. Wittfooth earned his MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York City in 2008. His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide, including the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, Akron Art Museum in Ohio, and La Halle Saint-Pierre in Paris, with solo exhibitions in New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle and Montreal. His paintings have also appeared in numerous publications, including Juxtapoz, American Art Collector and Vice. He has had cover features in New American Paintings, HiFructose and American Artist Magazine.
