Livestock producers are invited to “Working With Your Processor,” a free class, 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 22, at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County, 232 Plaza Road (Hannaford Plaza) in Kingston.  Jason Detzel, CCEUC livestock educator, will facilitate a talk about the process and procedures involved with preparing, loading, transporting, scheduling and getting the best quality product from the animals raised on the farm. Students will learn the difference between USDA and custom animal slaughter; where the closest processors are; how to fill out cut-sheets; and how to get the most out of the livestock. The class will review all of the processors in the state, requirements for moving animals across state lines, how to read and fill out cut-sheets, and get the most out of the relationship with each particular processor.  Although the class will focus on cattle, pigs, poultry and small ruminants, all manner of livestock can be discussed. No materials are necessary; just bring questions and any cut-sheets being used. The class is free and open to the public. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided.  Space is limited so preregister by March 20 by emailing jbd222@cornell.edu or calling 845-340-3990, ext. 327.
