The first annual Borscht Belt Film Fest, directed by High Falls resident, Jay Blotcher, a project of the Borscht Belt Museum, scheduled for Nov. 1-3 in Ellenville has issued an official call for original short films about the Borscht Belt resort era. The festival seeks both narrative and documentary short films to screen at the conclusion of the three-day film event. There is no cost to enter. The ground rules for submission are, the film must be at least 5 minutes and no longer than 10 minutes in duration; the theme must focus on the Borscht Belt resort era; the quality must be suitable for projection on a big screen; professional or amateur of all ages are eligible; entries must be submitted by Oct. 1; and final choices will be made by a jury of film industry professionals.
“Everyone has a Borscht Belt story to tell, and now is your chance to share it on film or video,” said Melody Gilbert, director of the Borscht Belt Film Fest. “Your film can be a documentary, a fictional story, or animation. It can be about bungalow colonies, rooming houses, stand-up comedians, waiters, or couples who fell in love on vacation. Here’s a great opportunity to capture special memories from family and friends about this fascinating era.”
All submissions must include the film title, logline (one-sentence summary), a short synopsis, and contact information with a link to the film (preferably a private link). Send it all to info@borschtbeltfilmfest.org. Applicants will be notified if their film has been selected for the screening. Selected films will have a chance to win awards.
