Directed by Elia Kazan, “A Face in the Crowd” (1957) follows Larry “Lonesome” Rhodes, Andy Griffith in his first major film role. A charismatic and manipulative drifter, Rhodes’ raw, folksy charm and quick wit make him an instant hit on a local TV show, and he rapidly rises to national fame. However, as his popularity grows, so does his ego and cynicism, and he becomes increasingly unscrupulous in his pursuit of power, using his influence over the public to manipulate politics and personal relationships for his own gain. Catch the story, 7 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at the Rosendale Theatre, 408 Main St., Rosendale. Admission is $10/$6 members. For more information, visit rosendaletheatre.org or call 845-658-8989.
