Indigenous history walk with Wild Hudson Valley’s Justin Wexler

Posted

Sunday, May 5, from 2-4 p.m., take a guided walk with Justin Wexler of Wild Hudson Valley to the Ashokan Center’s reconstructed traditional wigwam and surrounding habitats, at 477 Beaverkill Road, Olivebridge to learn about the life of local native people.

Wexler has studied regional Algonquian languages, history and folklore for over two decades, sharing discoveries with scholars and with tribal language departments. He has a BA in History and Anthropology from Marlboro College in Marlboro, VT; a Professional Certificate in Environmental Policy from Bard College and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Bard College.

The Ashokan Center is a unique non-profit organization with a 55-year history of youth outdoor education and 42 years of cultural preservation at summer Music & Dance Camps for adults and families. Ashokan has recently expanded outreach to offer local in-school and after-school arts and nature programming and increased access to our 385 acres of forests through guided hikes, day passes and community events. The Ashokan Center has been listed on the National Register Historic Places since 2019. For more information, visit ashokancenter.org or call 845-657-8333.
