Mary Pauline Trips-Elmore was born on December 13, 1933, to Mary Yuill Trips and Adolph Trips Jr. in Monticello, NY. She grew up on a dairy and poultry farm in Ferndale, NY. Mary attended a one-room schoolhouse from grades 1-6. At grade 7 she entered the Liberty Central School system. She earned her BA in Home Economics from SUNY Oneonta in May 1955. She taught Home Economics in Tri-Valley Central Schools and Harpursville Central Schools. In 1978, she earned her MA in Library Science from SUNY Albany. She was employed by the Kingston City Library System for two years, Riccardi Elementary School in the Saugerties School System for 8 years, and Rondout Valley High School for 8 years. She retired in 1994.

She married Walter Elmore, from South Fallsburg, on June 30, 1956, in Liberty, NY. Over the next 8 years she welcomed three sons and two daughters and moved her family five times to follow her husband’s work.

Along with raising her children and working, Mary loved to sew, garden, knit, quilt, and read. She was the leader of her boys’ 4-H club for 9 years. She was actively involved in many women’s groups at the High Falls Reformed Church and the Marbletown Reformed Church.

Mary is survived by her five children and their families. Doug and Tammy Elmore of Wake Forest, NC; Bruce Elmore, of Havelock, IA; Carolyn and Ron Edick of Poughkeepsie, NY; Tom and Janet Elmore, of Suffield, CT; and Anne and Steve Fecto, of Hinsdale, NH; their 10 grandchildren: Crystal, Heidi, Cody, Kayden, Garrett, Calvin, Benjamin, Zachary, Elizabeth, and Kathryn, and their great-grandchildren, Shaun and Nohea-Lee. She is also survived by her sister, Elsie Morris, of Belvidere, NJ, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held at the Marbletown Reformed Church, 3750 Main St., Stone Ridge on Sat. Jan. 10, 2025. Visitation and light refreshments with family will be held from 10 am to 11am, followed by a celebration service at 11am. Memorial contributions can be made to the Rondout Valley Food Pantry (RVFoodPantry.org/donate), or the Marbletown Reformed Church.
