The Wired Gallery presents two concurrent solo exhibitions, “In the shadow of your wings” by Olga Hiiva and “Points between” by Bob Bechtol, on display through Oct. 18, at the gallery, 11 Mohonk Road, High Falls. In her exhibition, Hiiva paints in oil on found objects including tablecloths, bedspreads and garments. Woven, embroidered and sewn surfaces become the foundation for portraits and figures, allowing objects once associated with domestic life to carry traces of memory and lived experience. “A tablecloth, as I see it, is a receptacle for tears, shouts, blessings, and curses, a canvas for emotion,” said Hiiva. In Bechtol’s show, he explores what happens when visual elements in opposition are brought into balance. He works in mixed media on paper and art board mounted on wood panel, primarily using charcoal, collage, acrylic and spray paint. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
