Drum Church is 11 a.m.-noon, Sundays, at the Muse, 1 Madeline Lane, Rosendale. Beginners are welcome to become familiar with playing as a group. Doors open at 10:45 a.m. Bring percussion instruments and drums. Some drums will be provided. On Sunday, Jan. 19 there will be a two-hour session featuring Women of the Calabash who, together with Fre Atlast will conduct a dance and drum program. Through their performance and informal dialogue, Women of the Calabash introduce audiences of all ages to the history and playing techniques of a wide variety of instruments. By performing a variety of music from Africa, the Caribbean and Black America, this ensemble crosses boundaries of style and instrumentation to give unity and context to the African American experience.
