West African Drumming with Rosendale musician and dancer Amadou Diallo

The Rosendale Library will present West African Drumming with Amadou Diallo, noon-1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 7, during the Rosendale Farmers Market in Willow Kiln Park, at 5 Hardenburgh Lane, Rosendale. Diallo will provide drums for participants to use and lead the group in a drum circle.

Diallo, Master of the Hrin Style of religious drumming and Tabala, began drumming in 1985 in Senegal. He later went on to play djembe, dun duns and marimba. He has trained and performed with numerous dance and drum companies throughout West Africa. In 1992, he trained with the Foret Sacre Ballet for three years, performed with the Ecole d’Art in Dakar for one year and with the group Thomas in Gambia for three years. He returned to Dakar and played with The Ballet African for four years and at the same time worked with The Kaklaimbe Group and Ballet Welingara. In 2001, he went on tour with The Ballet Bougarabou and came to the United States, where he currently resides in Rosendale, and performs with numerous groups including: Fakoli Dance and Drum, Foret Sacre, The Sarouba Group, The Vanaver Caravan, Foliba, Nego Gato, John Specker and Shout Loula.
