A living tradition of Scottish music with Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas and friends

A special public concert featuring Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas will be presented by the Ashokan Center, 3 p.m. Sunday, May 12, at 477 Beaverkill Road, Olivebridge. The duo will be joined by fiddler Emerald Rae and cellist Summer McCall, and Ashokan Music and Dance Camp founders Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, in a musical program that explores both the emotional and chronological range of traditional Scottish music. The Sunday afternoon concert will conclude the Ashokan Center’s eleventh annual Scottish String Fling weekend, a group instructional workshop where fiddlers and cellists learn tunes by ear, which was initiated by Fraser in 2014. The Scottish String Fling is part of a decades-long tradition of music and dance camps founded by Jay Ungar and Molly Mason at the Ashokan Center and is one of many music camps created and led by Fraser over the decades.

When possible, the Ashokan Center tickets work on sliding scale admission. Tickets to this concert start at $20 for the suggested price and $10 as the minimum price per ticket for all-age tickets. The performance will also be live-streamed on Facebook and available to watch from anywhere in the world for up to one year after the performance. The link to the online stream will be available on Ashokan’s website prior to the performance. Tickets and full details are available at ashokancenter.org or by calling 845-657-8333.
