Celebrate National Rose Month with the master gardeners at SUNY Ulster

Posted

On Nov. 29, 1986, in the White House Rose Garden, the rose was designated as the national floral emblem by President Ronald Reagan. Join Ulster County master gardener Marybeth Bannon at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15, rain or shine, and celebrate National Rose Month at the award-winning Xeriscape Garden, SUNY Ulster Campus, 491 Cottekill Road, Stone Ridge. There will be a brief discussion about the various types of roses, planting and pruning, diseases (pests and fungal) and choosing roses for disease resistance, fertilization, and suggested resources including good companions for them in the garden. This class is part of the master gardener “Learning in the Garden” workshop series, free gardening classes held the Xeriscape Garden on the third Saturday of each month, May through October. Upcoming workshops include: Perennial Plants of the Year with Diane Backus on July 20; Tour the Xeriscape Garden with Nordica Holochuck, Aug. 17; Annual Master Gardener Plant Sale, Sept. 21, and Native Plants with Cecily Frazier on Oct. 19. For more information, contact master gardener coordinator Dona Crawford, at 845-340-3990, ext. 335, or email dm282@cornell.edu.
