Local women’s hockey team to host tournament to benefit Alzheimer's Association

The Saugerties Nightmares Women’s Hockey Team, known to include gals from High Falls to Hastings-on-Hudson, of all ages is hosting its 3rd Annual May Melt Women’s Ice Hockey Tournament, Friday-Sunday, May 3-5, at its home rink, Kiwanis Ice Arena in Saugerties. The event will feature 12 teams from New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Jersey. Over 120 women will be participating in the tournament with spectators, fans, coaches, and officials also in attendance.

This event is a fundraiser, and all donations will go to the local Hudson Valley Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, as part of their “The Longest Day” campaign, a movement dedicated to Alzheimer’s research, support, and care sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association.

The 12 women’s ice hockey team, players ranging in age from 21 to 70, will be competing in three divisions, Recreational, Recreational Plus and C/D.

Over 20 local vendors have helped sponsor the tournament, through direct support of donations to the raffle. There will be over 50 raffle baskets donated by businesses, teams and players.

Games start Friday night at 5:15 p.m. and continue all day Saturday and most of Sunday.

In the past two years, the tournament has raised $18,000 and supported local youth programs and Miles of Hope, an organization dedicated to the Hudson Valley people who have been impacted by breast cancer. Visit https://www.facebook.com/SaugertiesNightmaresWomensHockey/ for more information.
