Sema, a cinematic journey into Rumi & the Whirling Dervishes of Turkey

Join the community, 7 p.m. Friday March 29, at the Rosendale Theatre, 408 Main St., Rosendale for the premiere screening of Sema. This project is produced by the Lila Series and is the second episode of a documentary series that explores sacred music and dance traditions from around the world. In this episode, audiences dive into the mysticism of the Whirling Dervishes, the symbolism of the Sema ceremony, the life & teachings of Rumi and how this tradition is evolving in today’s world. Though many people may have either witnessed or heard of the Whirling Dervishes, their historical context and spiritual teachings are often unknown or misunderstood.

Doors open and begin with live music at 7 p.m. followed by the film screening, 7:30 p.m.; Q&A, 8 p.m., and connect with the community, 8:30-9 p.m. Admission is $10/$6 members.
