Solar Eclipse presentation with Jack Chastain at Rosendale Library

In this presentation, 5 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at the Rosendale Library, 264 Main St., Rosendale, Jack Chastain will describe the mechanics of eclipses, Solar eclipses in particular, and show why they are rare and may occur in groups. Special focus will be made on the upcoming April 8 Eclipse. The library may have a limited number of eclipse glasses available for pickup. Chastain is the current President of Mid-Hudson Astronomy Association (MHAA). Retired now for about five years, he was most recently a Unix Systems Engineer for Verizon Telecommunications and has been involved in computing and electronics for about 50 years, starting with 10 years of service in the Navy as an Electronics Technician. In addition to his duties with MHAA, he gives talks to several organizations in the area and participates in Astronomy Outreach programs and Star Parties run by MHAA at Lake Taghkanic State Park, planned for the Friday before a New Moon. These Star Parties have been run nearly continuously for over 35 years and MHAA is in their 14th year at the State Park. Chastain witnessed the 2017 Total Eclipse in person from a location in Tennessee and is excited about the upcoming Eclipse.
